Amity services are designed primarily for individuals and groups
who have a history of substance abuse and/or criminality, many of
whom are incarcerated, or under supervision. This includes:
- Addicted mother's and their children
- Homeless substance abusers
- Prostitutes
- Victims of violence
- Children at high risk of becoming addicted and
or criminal
- Gang members
- Incarcerated substance abusers and those under
supervision
We believe that the development of intentional
communities and the development of interventions which
promote individual responsibility are key to restore
individuals and groups to healthy, productive, creative,
and meaningful lives. A commitment to open communication,
physical and emotional safety, individual respect, and
service to others form the basis of all Amity services.
Research, evaluation, and dissemination
of information are central to our mission. This includes:
- Causes and consequences of anti-social,
self destructive, criminal, and other dysfunctional
behaviors
- Evaluation of teaching and therapeutic
interventions aimed at populations that are deemed
difficult to engage
- Critical tests of the robustness and
replicability of successful interventions
- Amity will widely disseminate pertinent
information and research findings on its activities
