Our Approach
Located in Los Angeles, Beacon is a residential teaching community that gives our “mentors” (individuals with a former life sentence) a chance to start a new chapter with confidence and support. We provide mentors with a chance to process life experiences, strengthen reintegration support, incorporate healthy living habits and gain employment, education, & permanent housing.
Amity Foundation has built a long-standing partnership with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), that is integral to our focus on placing people at the center of the justice system. Our MCRP and FCRP campuses reflect CDCR’s commitment to investing in proven alternatives to incarceration, and the steps we are taking together to advance rehabilitation, accountability, and safer, healthier communities.
Services & Support
Some of our mentors were incarcerated for 50 years. Our goal is to provide them with a chance to process life experiences including past trauma, reunite with their families, and gain employment, education, health services & permanent housing. Mentors receive largely plant based meals, mindful meditation practice, and yoga weekly.
