Reporting to the CEO with a dotted line to the Part Time Consulting CFO, this full-time hands-on position located in Los Angeles, California is responsible for all aspects of finance and depending on the candidate, some or all aspects of human resources. With a strong Controller already in place this candidate will oversee the Controllership and will be more hands on with Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) and Projects. Position requires at least monthly travel to the administrative offices located in Tucson, AZ.

Controllership responsibilities include:

  • Accurate and timely monthly closes with supporting balance sheet reconciliations
  • Accurate and timely billing and collections
  • Managing accounts payable cycle including a purchase order system
  • Establishing meaningful monthly internal and external financial reports including trend, YoY and variance to budget
  • Understanding and highlighting unique and/or changing business trends
  • Managing internal financial controls including signature authority, and disbursement of capital
  • Coordinating annual audit and external contract audits
  • Ownership of the accounting structure of our ERP system
  • Over site of all business insurance policies
  • Compliance reporting with our lenders

Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the annual 2-year budget process culminating in Board approval
  • Updating the forecast with monthly actuals and any changes in material assumptions
  • Running scenarios and advising CEO on sensitivity of assumptions of financial goals
  • Establishing a 2 year capital budget

Project responsibilities:

  • Working with CEO and contract CFO to build financial models as Amity researches new projects
  • Create and submit amended budges to contract agencies
  • Create RFP budget as needed

Responsibilities in Human Resources include:

  • Coordinating health benefit plan renewal and strategy
  • Thorough understanding of wage and hour laws, exempt/non-exempt classifications and workers compensation
  • Processing payroll
  • Ownership of the employee handbook reflecting the wishes of Senior Management while being legally compliant
  • Creating, managing and updating pay scales


  • An accounting degree
  • Five plus years of experience in the areas described above
  • Preference for a candidate with public audit experience
  • Comfort with technology; experience working with various computer and financial programs and platforms and nonprofit accounting and financial reporting systems
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and organizational skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to independently drive projects
  • Calm demeanor when dealing with emergencies and other unexpected activities

This senior level position managing anywhere from 5 – 10 staff, requiring a hands-on approach to the work and a leadership style that fosters a department culture in alignment with the Mission of the organization. The Director of Finance will be a trusted and valued professional partner to the CEO and contract CFO and management team and will possess superior skills/abilities related to leadership, integrity, creativity, collaboration and communication.
