  • Resume — that outlines the years of experience (2 — 4 years) you have had working in a substance abuse program or behavioral health treatment facility for the criminal justice population and transitional experience.

POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for the delivery of services provided in the In Prison Single Level Substance Abuse Treatment Services Program (IPSLSATSP). Lead and participate in group and individual meetings, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavior therapy and other therapeutic processes; determines type, purpose, and focus of sessions; establish goals, and clarify participation rules; identify outcomes and determine criteria and methods for termination or graduation from groups. Work directly with the participants to develop and implement treatment service plan and create a support network for the participants pending return to the community.

  • Review treatment plans, records and evaluates treatment, progress and changes in appearance, behavior and demeanor of the program participants. Maintain accurate and timely, confidential participant records.
  • Compile and evaluate assessments, comprehensive social, legal and personal histories of program participants.
  • Summarize participants’ background, treatment plan, and recovery process. Prepare reports as assigned.
  • Prepare accurate, concise, informative records, reports, and plans that are consistent with Amity standards and comply with applicable clinical and administrative rules.
  • Document treatment outcome using acceptable methods and tools.
  • Coordinate with the Transition/Continuing Care Counselor to develop a Community Services Plan and transitional documents, as directed by CDCR, for continued community program activities;
  • Evaluate the progress of individual participants assigned to the Substance Abuse Services Groups.
  • Shall work collaboratively with the CDCR and institutional staff.
  • Participate in community building activities as appropriate to position. Teach good work habits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS High School diploma or equivalent (GED); AND one (1) year of experience providing cognitive behavioral treatment services to an offender population.ANDBe certified as an AOD counselor by a certifying organization approved by DHCS

DESIRABLE SKILLS, ABILITIES, CHARACTERISTICS; AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Ability to prepare accurate, concise, informative records, reports, and plans that are consistent with Amity standards and comply with applicable clinical and administrative rules. Document treatment outcomes using acceptable methods and tools.
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures generated by association with substance abuse treatment participants.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper attitudes and techniques towards program participants; ability to work well with multi-disciplinary treatment team.
  • Ability to provide genuine warmth, empathy and honest sensitivity to program participants to facilitate positive change.
  • Ability to provide program participants with frequent acknowledgement and reinforcement for positive behaviors, as well as consistent and predictable feedback for negative behaviors, which may include reporting violations to CDCR staff.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Bilingual, fluent Spanish/English oral and written skills highly desirable.

KNOWLEDGE OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROBLEMS AS DEMONSTRATED BY Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse; appreciation for the behavior, psychological, physical and social effects of drugs and drug abuse.Understanding of human emotions.Recognition of the importance of individual differences by gaining knowledge about personalities, cultures, lifestyles, and other factors that influence behavior, must demonstrate ability to apply this knowledge to treatment practices.
