Alan K. Richards
Los Angeles Regional Administrator
Alan Richards, a Los Angeles native entered Amity Foundation to receive reentry services in 2006 after a tumultuous turn with homelessness and incarceration. Beginning in 2008, Alan demonstrated significant leadership potential and was hired to serve as a role model for other Amity students. Drawing on his personal life experiences he was able to design and implement services that were and continue to be inclusive, meaningful and effective.
Alan currently serves as the Los Angeles Regional Administrator for Amity Foundation and oversees various projects, and is part of the newly awarded Care First Community Investment (CFCI) Third Party Administrator Project, which is responsible for awarding Measure J funds to underserved communities. His leadership at Amity over the years was demonstrated through his implementation of several projects including:
Developing and implementing Amity’s “Coaching 4 Change” mentoring project, funded through the US Department of Justice, which employed evidence based mentoring practices he contributed effectively by providing reentry services to incarcerated individuals.
Overseeing Amity’s Just In Reach projects that included multiple funding streams from State and County sources with a focus on utilizing a housing first model to provide an effective means for a targeted, high vulnerable population to become stabilized in communities through permanent supportive housing, thus reducing recidivism and cost associated with the criminal justice system and high-cost users of public system.
Provided mentoring services to returning citizens seeking employment through a project funded by the Department of Labor ReXO grant, sub-contract with Friends Outside in Los Angeles. During the first year of the two-year award Amity Foundation’s mentoring component was recognized by the Department of Labor as being one of the awardees to effectively implement and demonstrate how critical mentoring is to the continuum of reentry services.
Alan has been recognized by numerous entities in Los Angeles for his commitment to empowering the lives of others and we are very proud to have him at Amity Foundation.
