California Attorney General Rob Bonta Visits Amistad Campus
Rob Bonta, who serves as Attorney General in California, recently came to visit Amity Foundation’s Amistad campus to see how the state might be able to promote similar services offered by this model throughout California. The visit offered inspiration for the state to create a form of justice, recovery, and education that can be replicated not only throughout our community, but throughout the entire state and hopefully, one day, the entire nation.
Attorney General Bonta re-emphasized his understanding and commitment to the model throughout his tour, which included our Employment Services Department and 5 Keys School. You can read more about the specifics of our Employment Services team here including their mission and specific initiatives that have offered pathways to employment for many of our students.
One key factor that was emphasized to the Attorney General was the importance of continued access to both schooling and employment opportunities once they reach certain threshold; a concept that is central to the Amity philosophy in creating lasting change throughout our community.
Another fundamental principle that our faculty shared during the tour was how the environment plays a crucial role in the community. We make conscious efforts to have Amistad (and all of our campuses) feel like a home, and not like an institution. It is this belief that creates lasting impacts on our students and allows them to gain back dignity, community, and hope that is often lost in a chaotic system.
We would like to extend our thanks to Attorney General Rob Bonta and his team for taking the time to come tour and learn more about our philosophy, as well as his continued commitment to promoting this philosophy throughout the state. Big thanks to our faculty who assisted including Juana Ochoa, Regina Slaughter, and Danny Romero.
