Circle Tree Ranch

Tucson, AZ

Circle Tree Ranch, Amity's flagship campus, is a Teaching Community located on  60-acres between the Catalina and Rincon mountain ranges.  Since the mid-1980’s, this campus has been cultivated as a safe and inclusive environment for all people.

Students follow The Extensions curriculum, authored by Naya Arbiter and Fernando Mendez, which teaches and fosters living in community, overcoming prejudices and intergenerational conflict, and developing a moral and social compass which bolsters traditional substance abuse recovery work.

Additionally, Circle Tree Ranch welcomes parents and their children as they receive services. Older children attend schools in the Tanque Verde District while younger ones are part of a daily child centered curriculum.

Over the past 40 years, Amity has received students from many Native American tribes. We use sweat lodges and other traditional ceremonies to support this community, whose rich history has in fact become part of curriculums on all of our campuses.

Many of the plant-based, non-GMO meals and juices are prepared from ingredients grown on the property’s organic garden where students have an opportunity to learn about sustainable living.

  • Amity’s Circle Tree Ranch has offered an alternative approach to traditional alcohol and drug treatment for nearly 50 years.

Circle Tree Ranch is located east of Tucson, Arizona on a beautiful 60-acre campus nestled between the majestic Catalina and Rincon Mountain ranges in the lush and peaceful Sonoran Desert.

Our effective, evidence based approach is proven for individuals with a variety of needs which allows them to heal core traumas, identify strengths, improve self-esteem, learn life skills, and address the underlying issues that contribute to their addiction and self-destructive behaviors.

At Circle Tree Ranch, we teach the importance of community and development of authentic relationships as a key to recovery. Our culturally inclusive and sensitive curriculum teaches and empowers our students to succeed in today’s world.

Amity Circle Tree Ranch uses innovative, evidence-based approaches and is recognized as one of the few formal curriculum-based teaching communities in the United States.

  • A strong correlation has been established between family involvement, recovery from drugs, alcohol, trauma, personal mastery and long-term positive outcomes for the student. Amity faculty invites the families of our students to participate in a wide variety of family activities including weekend workshops, retreats, group therapy sessions, picnics and recreational activities. Circle Tree Ranch offers an additional program track where, when appropriate, parents may bring their children with them to our residential communities during their rehabilitation and recovery. Ultimately the individual must make their own decision to move towards dignity, responsibility and growth.

From a former student:

When I was a student at Amity, I found my voice. I had been a person addicted with low self- worth and apathy towards the world. Living in community forced me out of myself and able to scoop a whole world in around me. Without my teachers, I would not have graduated Magna Cum Laude, completed a PhD program or help design a nationally recognized non-profit. More that all of this, I would not have been the mother I am to my 3 children, who are now themselves contributors and advocates for others.
