Cal Matters Article Highlights Community Reentry Program’s Benefits
Garrett Jensen from Stanford University’s Public Policy Program published an article via calmatters.org about California’s recent investment in transitional reentry programs. The article focuses on the success of the programs in the area, including that of the Amity Foundation.
The article draws from a recent Stanford University study, which you can read more about here: https://purl.stanford.edu/bs374hx3899
The study concludes that the optimal decision for statewide corrections departments would be to extend and expand programs, such as Amity, to not only reduce recidivism within the state, but to give other states a model to follow while reforming their respective criminal justice systems.
With a focus on developing and accessing the necessary skills, tools and resources to transition into the community, organizations like Amity have a much higher chance of positive outcomes than traditional ‘rehabilitation’ strategies that have largely proven ineffective.
